Private Practice Coaching
Work Privately With Gregg
One on one coaching that clears your trouble spots and fixes the way you practice them. Any instrument, including voice, at any level.

How It Works
A short, focused plan that sets you free
Weekly, between your lessons
Coaching backs up your teacher's direction. My first question every week is what your teacher asked you to learn.
Four or eight weeks
It is not open ended. Four to eight sessions are enough for change that lasts.
One hour a week
We work out how to run your practice, so every minute of the week builds skill instead of burning time.
Built to make the coach unnecessary
You leave able to guide your own practice. The methods keep growing in your hands as your playing grows.
Two months of Practiclass, free
Coaching clients also get two months of the monthly Practiclass at no cost, where the same skills get worked out live with other players.
Your first session is guaranteed
More improvement in one session than you have ever made before, or a full refund. Just send an email.
The Practice Loop
Plan. Do. Reflect. Repeat.
You are already getting good instruction. So why do some players hold up under pressure while others, working just as hard, keep struggling? The answer is in how you practice.
Decide what to fix and how, before you start playing.
Practice with full focus, using the technique, not just reps.
See what worked, then adjust the next session.

Performance Development
Nerves fade when your hands cooperate
Most of us treat performance as something to get through, hoping the next one somehow goes better. It does not, because more of the same practice gives more of the same result. Being afraid of a poor performance is reasonable when poor performances are what keep happening.
The fix is changing how you practice. When you can pull up everything stored in long term memory at every moment, without fail, there is very little left to worry about onstage. The hands and the voice respond. The nerves fade. What is left is the music.

Recital and Competition
Walk in with the hard parts already solved
Motivated players want to prepare the best performance possible. Yet most of us are still fighting sections of the piece on the day of the event, waiting on a breakthrough that almost never comes.
Learning to perform works differently than people assume. The few who work it out and use it every week look gifted. The techniques come from cognitive science and anyone can learn them. Most teachers never pass them on, because schools of education and music do not teach that science in any real way.
Stage Fright
When you have played it with ease many times in practice, the performance itself becomes easy.

Virtuosity Development
Find the next level, or the final one
Some players have already worked out how to practice well. They use contextual interference and retrieval practice without ever hearing the formal names. Even so, that last level of virtuosity stays out of reach.
What is missing is usually a deeper layer. Neurobiological latency, the retrieval side of memorization, metacognition, problem solving inside deliberate practice, and more. Ever notice a speed wall on certain passages right around that level? That is no accident, and there are strategies for it. This is the work that takes a player from advanced to virtuoso.

Adult Learners, Self-Taught, and Pop Musicians
Coming to music late changes nothing
Maybe you started as an adult, or came back after years away. Maybe you never had a formal teacher, or you play rock, pop, or jazz instead of the classical track. None of that changes how skill gets built. The science works the same whether you are playing Chopin or working out a song by ear. Your brain does not care about your genre, your age, or whether you read notation.
If you are self directed, coaching gives you the structure most players only get from a teacher. We start with what you want to play and build the practice around it, so limited time turns into real skill instead of repetition. Adult learners often assume the window has closed. It has not. The plateau you feel is about method, and method can be learned at any age.
In Their Words
What players say
I have never been able to express myself on stage. Now I am not nervous, so I can let the emotion come through, and performing is really fun.
By doing the things Gregg suggested, I got far more out of my practice time, and made much more progress than I ever thought I could.
I really feel like I have won already, and I have not even taken the exam yet. I am so pumped. This is the best thing I have ever done.
It really surprised me how quickly it takes effect. It was life altering for me, something I had been looking for for years.

Good to know
Any instrument, including voice, and any style. The way the brain builds skill is the same across all of them.

Gregg Goodhart taught instrumental music for two decades, including thirteen years at a high school, plus university, junior college, and private students. Fifteen years ago he found the research on how the brain actually builds skill, and he is the only music teacher he knows of who also works as a learning expert for academic teacher training in math, science, history, language, sports, and music.
